I got my lap top back from the manufacturer today! Yay! I have had one issue after another with this thing. As the 1 year warranty was almost ready to expire, I thought I had better return it and see if I could get it fixed before I went and bought a new one. So far, so good. Don’t get me started on the whole topic of things breaking down at the 1 year mark these days. In my pre retirement days I would have probably just taken the laptop to the shop and had them fix it so I could have it back as quickly as possible. This time we were more conscious of cost. I did consult with the repair guy at our local shop about it. He recommended we send it back and have them fix it as we were just under the warranty expiration. He said it would cost well over $100 to repair, most likely closer to the $200 mark. We took it to a courier to send it and the cost of that was $70.00 (including insurance). Wow, didn’t want to pay that so went to good old Canada Post. I knew we had packed it well in bubble wrap so went that way. It was $25.00 including insurance. Proud of myself to take the time to find the most cost effective way to get this done.
I know I haven’t posted much lately. We were gone on holidays for 5 weeks which I have written about and have some more of that to share with you in future posts. Then my sister from Nova Scotia came for a 2 week visit, then I went up to northern British Columbia to visit my daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren for 2 weeks. Then my lap top broke down. Then my Dad went into hospital. He is home now and doing pretty well. So I can finally get back on the blog. Wow, I have had a lot going on!
Of course now we are in Christmas preparation mode as well. What are your plans this year? We are keeping it simple this year. We have no company coming so it will just be ourselves, my parents and my younger daughter and her boyfriend. My mother wants to host Christmas day this year at her house, so we will go there. I will assist with the dinner of course. For the first time ever, we drew names this year. So that is helping on the keep it simple campaign for sure. We had a nice day here on Monday so we put up our outside lights. So that is done. I went into town with a friend today to do a bit of shopping. I am also doing a better job on keeping costs down on Christmas shopping. Not buying those impulse items, putting more thought into my purchases. When I was working I was always in a hurry and would just wander around the store buying whatever. Just get it done. Not doing that anymore! So things are getting done!
We have also made progress on our laundry room project. It is amost done. Just need a few more decor items and I will share the before and after pictures with you.
It is totally true when retired people talk about being way too busy to work. I truly wouldn’t have time to work even if I wanted to. Which I don’t!
