My next adventure starts tomorrow! I am leaving for Iceland! Definitely a bucket list destination. I am taking this trip with a girlfriend and leaving the husband at home this time. This will be a whole different vibe but in a good way I think. My friend and I are both pretty easy going and low maintenance whereas my husband is shall we say a wee bit high maintenance!
We are spending 3 nights in Iceland. Then we fly to Helsinki for 5 nights. We plan on taking 1 day out to ferry over to Tallinn Estonia and back. We are also planning a day trip to Porvoo which is a town not too far away that was recommended by a friend. So that leaves 3 days to explore Helsinki. Next we have a short 2 days in Stockholm. That will be a bit of a whirlwind for sure. Then we wind up with 4 nights in Norway. We are taking a train to Bergen with a fjord boat trip and train back to Oslo. We fly back to Canada from Oslo. I know it is not near enough time but I am very glad to be able to go for at least this time. Total of 16 days including travel days. I did get a taste of this part of the world last Sept when hubby and I went on a Baltic cruise prior to our UK trip. We did love the cruise and the 2 full days in St Petersburg were definitely a highlight. Our cruise however did not take us to Helsinki, our 1 day in Stockholm just poured rain (although we still loved it) and our day in Tallinn Estonia was not near enough. I did see enough to tell me I wanted to go back. So on this trip I will get a bit more of Stockholm, will see a lot of Helsinki and a repeat of Tallinn will be awesome. Add in Iceland and Norway and it will be fabulous! Norway is one of those countries I have always had an interest in but never thought I would ever get to see. People have asked me why I keep going to places that are cold(er) instead of sun destinations. I do those too, (love Hawaii!) but perhaps it is a red head thing that I gravitate to the cooler climates, I am not sure. Also I really love the history and architecture you get in Europe. It is like no other place and it speaks to me. I can’t get enough of it!
So bags are packed including a rain coat with a hood! I have a feeling I will need that. Am keeping it simple again this time and going with carry on luggage only. I am a really bad photographer but will do my best so I can share the experience with you when I get back. Bye for now!
