Today I went into town to run a few errands, have lunch with my parents, go to my favourite farm market and get groceries. I feel so lucky to live where I live and have such locally grown produce available. It is awesome right now and pricing is really good this year. Must be due to the weather cooperating as the harvest this year is great. I got a whole load of fruit and veg today as well as eggs. Then I went to the grocery store for everything else. That is where the frustration comes in. I wanted to buy some walnuts to put in the granola bars that I make. Whoa baby, what has happened to the price of these babies? I got a smallish bag from the bulk section. It was maybe 300 grams or so. I get to the cash and they were $21.00!!!! Sorry but they aren’t in my budget!. So needless to say, they are still at the store. Then I bought a wee (and I mean wee) bag of pistachio’s. I just wanted a few to use for a garnish on a desert I am making for a dinner party on the weekend. We aren’t talking about a big bag here. Those few little pistachios were $5.39. Similar situation for a wee little bag of hemp hearts. It’s almost like someone just wants to make sure we don’t catch a break. Like we are paying less right now for fruit and veg so let’s raise the price on other stuff? Doesn’t the universe know we are really trying to buy healthy gluten free, dairy free and everything else free you can imagine? This isn’t helping. I guess I am going to have to do some work to figure out some alternatives. Not sure what that will be. I can’t eliminate the nuts from the granola bars and add more pumpkin seeds because they are a fortune as well. I also see that the price of raisins is higher as well. It is probably cheaper to buy a box of granola bars at the store that is full of all kinds of non food stuff! Not going to do that!
But as I am a glass half full person, I will be happy about the bounty of fruits and veg I got today and stop going on about nuts. Rant over.
