My name is Karen and I have recently retired from a 37 year career in the financial services industry. I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia with my husband. We have 2 grown daughters. Both live on their own and are self supporting (Yahoo!). Our oldest daughter H is married and has 2 children, H & N. They live in Alberta. Our youngest daughter, E, lives a 30 minute drive from us. She is single and enjoys a good career. We see her often. We are very fortunate to live near an airport where we can get a direct flight to the city where H lives. Flights there are only 1 hour 15 min in duration, so super convenient. Or we can drive there in 12 hours. I have been mostly flying there with the odd road trip once in a while to visit them. Now that I am retired, the road trips will be the norm as I won’t be in such a hurry to get back to go to work.
My spouse, G, has been retired for a few years and has been patiently (?) waiting for me to retire so we can do the things we have planned. This blog will not be about financial advice on investing for retirement even though I have a background in such topics. This blog will be about sharing with you how we decided the time was right to retire, what went into the decision, what we did to get our “ducks in a row”, so to speak. I will share with you what we are doing to be frugal in some aspects of our retirement spending so that we can do the thing we want to do in other areas. We, like so many newly retired folks, have plans to travel. I will share with you ways we made in happen without going broke. There will be some DIY posts and some food posts on this retirement lifestyle blog.
I hope in the months to come you can get some information and tips that will help in your own retirement and retirement planning. I will also share things that didn’t work so perhaps you won’t make the same mistakes!
I hope you join me along the journey.
